I don't know why my knee still hurts
Developing a good understanding of why you still have knee pain is very important to kick-start your recovery.
Once you understand your pain, the Kneed treatments and strategies will work better.
Kneed Pain Knowledge 1, Kneed Pain Knowledge 2 and Kneed Pain Knowledge 3 are designed to help you develop a good understanding of your pain.
The quizzes are important to see how this knowledge makes sense in different situations and can be found in the Pain Knowledge modules or on the quiz page.
Should I be taking medication?
This needs to be personalised for you by talking to your doctor with an understanding of your individual needs.
However, the medication module provides background information to help extend your knowledge for these discusssions.
Where do I start?
Kneed was originally set out to start at the introduction and then be read like a book from left to right and then down the page, so you can proceed this way.
What we found though, is that a lot of people want to take their own journey and personalise it.
To help get started, set yourself some goals to achieve over the 8 week program.
Importantly, follow Goldilocks and understand how to pace yourself.
I feel so stressed
Pain increases with stress and stress increases with pain, so reducing stress is a good strategy to help reduce pain.
The relaxation module teaches progressive muscular relaxation, a technique to reduce stress and relax your muscles and body.
Poor sleep is associated with increased stress and pain and strategies to improve sleep can make a world of difference.
Pain stops me from doing the things I enjoy
This is a common problem but can be overcome with strategies, even when you still experience pain.
The two most important are pacing and gradually progressing activity time.
Setting some goals for these activities really helps.
Pain has ruined my relationships and sex life
The consequences of pain can be terrible!
Recognizing that there is a problem is the first step to finding solutions.
You can get started with our relationships and sex page.
I've tried everything, I need something new!
Many people have already tried rehabilitation and done exercise following their knee replaceement.
The approaches in Kneed are deliberately different and based on a better understanding of pain and change, because doing the same thing will likely achieve the same result.
Motor Imagery is new and unlikely to have been tried before – it is an evidence-based treatment specifically aimed at retraining your brain’s understanding of the messages coming from your body to improve movements and pain.
In my experience, Tactile Acuity Training will also be new to you as it is rarely taught in rehabilitation or clinics.
Progressive muscular relaxation training might also be new to you – practice this daily for 8 weeks and you will notice multiple benefits!
Every time I get started my pain flares up.
Flare-ups are common and with Kneed strategies put into place, you should experience less of them.
When flare-ups do occur, managing them well from the start is super important.
