Step 1 – Download the Recognise App
You need to purchase and download the Recognise App from the makers to your phone or tablet from an App store (Apple or Android).
Click here for the website link which will then take you to the App Store. Download the app for the body part specific to where you have the most pain: back, neck, shoulder, hand, knee or foot.

Step 2 – Open the Recognise App
Open the App and *Press PLAY*
Settings
After you press ‘Play” there are 3 options:

- Record your current pain level – this keeps a pain diary (optional)
- Change the time per image (a shorter time makes it harder and a longer time makes it easier)
- Change the number of images (more to practise for longer, less to practise for shorter)
- Results can be viewed under ‘results’ in the menu
Step 3 – Start learning with the Recognise App
Aim to learn for 30 minutes a day.
The aim is to complete the 4 levels of the left/ right judgement task with 80% accuracy for both body sides and performed in under 2 secs per image.
The other exercises are provided to help learning with different techniques but are optional.
Practice can be done at different times of the day for example for 10 minutes 3 times a day. You can start with smaller amounts (eg. 5 minutes and build up if you find it difficult)
- Left/ right judgement
Always start each day at Basic and progress through to Vanilla, Context and Abstract when you achieve over 80% accuracy and a time of less than 2 seconds per image
- Memory exercise
Start with the Easy memory level and progress to Moderate and Hard if you are able to
- Speed match
Choose the left or right side to match starting with Easy and progress through the levels of difficulty
Step 4 – Complete the Quiz: GMI Level 1
Perfect practice makes perfect – the aim is to complete this level within 2 weeks but it may require daily practice. Remember, we are trying to change the way the brain works and this takes effort. When you have passed all the levels start the honesty quiz below and when successfully completed, this will unlock Graded Motor Imagery Level 2
